Clintons Invested Little Money In Whitewater, Panel Chief Says

WASHINGTON The Republican chairman of the House BankingCommittee, contradicting the the president and his wife, chargedMonday that the Clintons invested very little money into theWhitewater real estate venture and then stood by as their businesspartner looted a state-regulated savings and loan to fund the scheme.

While the thrift's failure cost the taxpayers $60 million, itcost the Clintons nothing, Committee Chairman James A. Leach said.

"In a nutshell, Whitewater is about the arrogance of power (and)an insider political class that considered itself above the law,"Leach (R-Iowa) said.
